Some stories were included in the first volume that the Buffalo Historical Society published in 1879. In this volume is Millard Fillmore inaugural's speech as President of the Society and he shares his view, Buffalo Mayor William Ketchum includes an essay, Sheldon Ball and Asher Wright give us an early story and N. T. Strong gives us a story regarding a Native American named Buffalo.
The Beau Fleuve theory is the most recent origin story. It seems to be a story that people (my brother included), really gravitate towards.
In July of 2021, the Buffalo Historical Museum (BHM) issued a document titled Buffalo’s Name Origin: Theories Summarized and Ranked.
